The Business of Writing: From Writer to Indie Publisher (Virtual)

April 18, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm PDT

Leah
Mystery Writers of America Northwest Chapter presents Leah Cutter on The Business of Writing: From Writer to Indie Publisher

Writing books and stories is not enough in these times. Join us as Leah Cutter describes how she and her husband have become author-entrepreneurs with their indie publishing company and ventures into online publication of quarterly magazines for Science Fiction and Mystery readers.

Leah Cutter sold her first short story back in 1997 and continues to write and sell both fiction as well as non-fiction. She currently runs Knotted Road Press, Inc., a small sized press in Seattle. In addition to publishing herself and her husband (Blaze Ward) Knotted Road Press is also the home of more than once anthology/magazine series, including a science fiction quarterly publication (Boundary Shock Quarterly), a themed anthology series (Blaze Ward Presents) as well as a mystery publication (to be announced soon).

Leah has lived all over the world and held the requisite odd writer jobs, such as doing archaeology work in England, teaching English in Taiwan, and bartending in Thailand. She writes fantasy, science fiction, mystery, literary, and horror fiction. Her short fiction has been published in magazines like “Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine” and “Talebones”, anthologies like Fiction River, and on the web. Her long fiction has been published both by New York publishers as well as various small presses.
